About the role

Life Without Barriers is seeking a Psychologist to provide Clinical Psychological support services in an innovative Assertive Outreach Drug and Alcohol Program, Next Steps.

This new program services the Port Augusta and the Onkaparinga region. Contract on offer is full-time until 30 June 2021 working from Christies Beach. There will be an expectation for this role to travel between the two regions.

In this role you will ensure that participants who have a history of reluctant engagement with treatment services are encouraged into assessment and treatment for their alcohol and other drug concerns. The role coordinates and delivers a range of supports that reflect the individual’s complex, and comorbid needs and goals as described in their individual treatment plans.

The psychologist is responsible for engaging with participants, families, guardians and other key stakeholders in order to facilitate a cohesive, high quality support service that provides an assertive support system around the participant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote stable and consistent engagement of the client.
  • Complete specialised assessments for clients experiencing alcohol, tobacco and other drug problems and other comorbidities.
  • Provide specialised clinical treatment for clients experiencing alcohol, tobacco and other drug problems and other comorbidities.
  • Provide client formulations and support the development of individualised case plans.
  • Provide support to the multidisciplinary team through the facilitation of training and clinical reflection sessions.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary team meetings. 
  • Case management. 

Skills & Experience 

  • Masters qualifications in Psychology and a full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with clients at risk of homelessness and substance misuse
  • Demonstrated experience in administration of a range of cognitive and adaptive behaviour assessment tools.
  • Ability to work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to use initiative and think laterally and strategically as well as well-developed problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
