About the role

As an established provider of services in the mental health sector, Life Without Barriers is expanding this support into the NDIS space and is excited to establish a new stream of services through our recovery coaches.

Aligning with an individuals’ NDIS Plan, the Psychosocial Recovery Coach will assist the participant in accessing a range of supports that suits their individual needs and improving their health, well-being and participation within the community. Working closely with families, carers and other services they will design, plan and implement a recovery plan that sets capabilities that support people to recognise and take responsibility for their own recovery and wellbeing, defining their goals and aspirations.

The successful candidate will have a lived experienced of mental health or a strong history in working with people with serious and persistent mental health conditions, have a drive to support capacity-building activities for the people they support, a compassionate and collaborative approach to their work, and enjoy finding innovative solutions to complex situations. 

This position if offered as a full-time, 12 month max term contract with the possibility of an extension, located in either Epping or  Dandenong

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health Community Services) and/or 2 years relevant experience in mental health related peer work
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use lived experience of mental health to provide support and enable recovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds with specific reference to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively engage, interact and work with people who have diverse and / or complex needs including a psychosocial disability.
  • Demonstrated experience accessing and coordinating of different service systems and  collaborating with mental health services in planning and coordinating supports to implement a person’s plan, in particular during times of increased support needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and to deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes and quality standards
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Recovery Principles and application of Recovery Orientated Practice, including understanding of psychosocial disability and recovery, trauma-informed practice, supported decision making and family inclusive practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with consumers to build a trusting coaching relationship that motivates and builds capacity to problem solve, review progress, reflect and learn.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the episodic nature of mental illness
  • The ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including peers, employees, external organisations, funding bodies and government

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Check and NDIS Screening Certificate
