About the Role

Life Without Barriers has been selected by the Victorian Government to operate disability accommodation and respite services, known as Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Short Term Accommodation and Assistance (STAA) currently managed by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services. To ensure the transfer of the services to Life Without Barriers is a smooth and successful experience for participants, staff and families involved, a number of positions are now available in the transfer project.

As the Program Specialist, Senior Practice Advisor you will be responsible for providing practice guidance and support for clients with complex needs. The role is a key resource in understanding the support arrangements for clients with the most complex needs and ensuring safeguarding and supports are effective and relevant. You will have experience collaborating and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, and have current knowledge of state government arrangements for managing behaviours of concern.

This new role is an integral member of the Quality, Practice and Safeguarding team and working in partnership with service delivery teams, will be located from our new Canterbury office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with service delivery teams to implement and promote best practice in service delivery.
  • Implement organisational program related initiatives within the area.
  • Provide input into the development of programs and practice initiatives and translate these into practice.
  • Support and provide practice guidance to staff supporting participants with complex needs.
  • Understand and support processes to be compliant with state government systems for disability funded services e.g. RIDS
  • In partnership with internal stakeholders, ensure compliance with relevant legislation, service standards and LWB policy and procedures.
  • Provide advice and practical assistance to Managers and team members on the application and implementation of legislation, standards and evidence informed practice.
  • Provide training, on-the-job coaching and mentoring to staff, to assist with skills development.

Skills & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Services or Social Sciences.
  • Experience in service monitoring and supervision practices
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Expert knowledge and experience in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of client support services in Disability
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership within own area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems to improve services
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice, support, coaching, mentoring and training to managers and staff.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
