About MCAC

Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation (MCAC) is the representative body for the Anangu residents of Mutitjulu.  It is recognised in the lease which establishes the Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park and has a special place in the history of land rights in Australia.

MCAC works closely with other community stakeholders and community members to establish projects and services in the community that benefit members, their families, visitors and other community residents.  Some of these projects include the community laundry, improving playgrounds, purchase of community buses and upgrading the community oval and business centre. 

About the role

MCAC is seeking a strategic and innovative Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to join the organisation and guide its operations. MCAC’s CEO must have prior experience working with Traditional Owners, executive leadership skills and governance and stakeholder skills, as well as sophisticated expertise to ensure the continued success of MCAC.  

Essential characteristics of the successful candidate include an honest and ethical person who is empathetic and hard working, possesses good communication skills (both written and oral) and able to mentor others within MCAC as a leader.  

The CEO is accountable to the Board and will work closely and collaboratively with the Directors to maintain and further develop the goals and vision of MCAC. The CEO will directly supervise key management personnel and any employees who work directly for the CEO.

The role is living and working in the Aboriginal Community of Mutitjulu at the base of Uluru, Northern Territory.  The position is not considered to be fly in / fly out. 

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Day-to-day management, administration and legal compliance of MCAC in accordance with its Strategic or Annual Plan. 
  • Running and management of Grants.
  • Overseeing and guiding the management of MCACs municipal services, housing maintenance, safety and night patrol and Ranger Program activities and contracts. 
  • Overseeing the operations of the Community Store, run by ALPA.
  • Overseeing the operations of the Art Gallery and Café located at the Cultural Centre.
  • Supervise management and other employees as required, including facilitating regular performance reviews. 
  • Ensure programs and services are continually evaluated and improved. 
  • Undertake (or facilitate the undertaking of) strategic planning and policy development in consultation with the MCAC Board.
  • Provide progress reports to the Board against the Strategic or Annual Plan.
  • Inform the Board about funding opportunities, risks, major changes to processes and sector and regulatory issues and trends that may impact MCAC’s goals and operations. 
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of MCAC’s policies and articulate these policies to staff and other stakeholders as required. 
  • Represent MCAC at community, regional, State and National levels as required. 
  • Ensure MCAC is consistently and positively represented in the community and with relevant stakeholders. 
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with funding bodies. 
  • Update MCACs staffing structure as required and undertake recruitment of key staff as required.
