Garrawarra Centre is an Aged Care facility that offers person centred care to residents living with Dementia.

We are offering an exciting and unique opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification of Certificate 3 in Health Services Assistance while working as a trainee Assistant in Nursing, gaining experience in aged care and dementia specific nursing care. This opportunity is available to participants who would like to commence an entry into Nursing, who would like a paid gap year before commencing further studies or have always wanted to be a Nurse.

The positions are 13 month temporary full-time positions, working a rotating 24hr, 7 day a week roster. The theoretical component is conducted by TAFE NSW and trainees are paid to attend classes. The program will commence on Monday 12 February 2024.

Where you'll be working

Garrawarra Centre is located between Helensburgh and Waterfall on the ourskirts of the Royal National Park. The centre provides person centred care to 104 residents living with Dementia.

What you'll be doing

All staff are expected to take reasonable care that their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others, that they comply with any reasonable instruction that is given them and with any reasonable policies / procedures relating to health or safety in the workplace, as well as notifying any hazards/risks or incidents to their managers.

  • Provision of support to the nursing team in the delivery of nursing care in an acute care environment as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide direct care activities to patients in accordance with the nursing care plan and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Assist Registered and Enrolled Nurses with patient care interventions as directed
  • Contribute to collecting accurate health care information and maintaining accurate health care documentation as required
  • Communicate effectively with patients and other health care team members in accordance with appropriate protocol
  1. Does NOT hold a certificate 3 in Health Services Assistance, or an existing Certificate 3 qualification or above, which has been obtained within the last 7 years in any trade. Do NOT apply if you have this qualification, you will not be eligible.
  2. Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  3. Proven ability to work as part of a team
  4. Willing to obtain a First Aid Certificate, or currently have First Aid Certificate
  5. At least 18 years of age at commencement of traineeship (12 February 2024)
