Margaret Tucker Hostel was established in 1983 to provide supported crisis accommodation to young Aboriginal women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel supports young Aboriginal women who are aged from 15-18 years of age to provide supported crisis accommodation for up to 6 weeks to young Aboriginal women and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel provides a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal women and their children where they are supported to seek longer term and more secure housing options and fully prepared them for independent living.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
This role will be responsible for
- Provide an immediate response to referrals into the hostel – conducting comprehensive face to face assessments in collaboration with referral sources
- Develop and implement client focused case plans
- Monitor and evaluate individual support plans
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with allied support services
- Assist and support the young women through encouraging engagement in activities and workshops opportunities
- Assess suitability for independent living and assist in the transition process.
- Admission administration including formal induction process.
- Maintain records and files within an effective case management framework
YOU WILL NEED:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
- Bachelor's degree in Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, or other health/welfare related qualifications, which includes at least one unit in case management practice or up to three years’ experience working in a community base organisation with young people in a
- Demonstrated understanding of issues related to homelessness and ability to work in a trauma informed manner.
- Strong planning, scheduling, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work to achieve desired outcomes for young women.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to motivate others to achieving their goals.
- Ability to show support and empathy to those facing difficult circumstances.
- Experience in dealing with drug and alcohol dependency and mental health issues.
- Current drivers licence
- Current working with children experience
- First Aid certificate
