Margaret Tucker Hostel was established in 1983 to provide supported crisis accommodation to young Aboriginal women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel supports young Aboriginal women who are aged from 15-18 years of age to provide supported crisis accommodation for up to 6 weeks to young Aboriginal women and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The hostel provides a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal women and their children where they are supported to seek longer term and more secure housing options and fully prepared them for independent living.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
This role will be responsible for
- Support and encourage participation in and understanding of Aboriginal culture in everyday life.
- Assist residents to find ways to connect with and understand their culture and heritage.
- Always maintain a culturally sensitive environment within the hostel.
- Support, attend and represent at local Aboriginal community events and initiatives and encourage residents to participate and/or attend these events
- Implement continuous improvement activities for the program and service delivery
- Leadership of 4 full time and 5 casual employees
- Coaching and mentoring of team members
YOU WILL NEED:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
- Bachelor’s degree qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development or Psychology or other welfare related field or up to three years’ experience working in a community setting working directly with young people and community organisations.
- Demonstrated experience working with community organisations to provide a coordinated response to achieve positive housing outcomes for the young people.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills such as active listening, negotiation, problem solving, decision making, report writing.
- High level competency with Microsoft Office suite of programs, SharePoint, and SHIP data collection platform.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, monitor, and review all aspects of service delivery programs to ensure key objectives are met.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and motivating a team to achieve targets and ensure quality outcomes for the young women.
- Experience delivering support and accommodation services to at risk young people including young families who are experiencing and impacted by homelessness, in particular young Aboriginal women.
- Experience working with external stakeholders to achieve referral pathways and service outcomes.
- Current drivers licence
- Current working with children experience
- First Aid certificate
