Arabic and Farsi speaking Cultural Support Worker's for MYC's Settlement & Asylum Seeker Programs.
Marist Youth Care (MYC) is a not-for-profit organisation focused on helping at risk young people, their families and communities. MYC was established in 1896 and now has 350 staff assisted by 114 volunteers. MYC has developed into one of the largest service providers for youth, families and vulnerable adults at risk in Australia today.
Are you are interested in an unique position that provides in-depth support to refugee and asylum seeker clients? Well this may be the perfect role for you! This position requires you to mentor and provide culturally appropriate services and support to those engaged within our programs. You will be required to draw on your knowledge of culture and language, utilising this expertise as you liaise with clients and MYC staff members including translating and advocating for our clients.
You will assist MYC's client's that are refuges or people seeking asylum in developing their living skills, budgeting and awareness of Australian customs and community. You will develop and attend cultural events and activities and support the creation of meaningful networks and relationships for the clients to connect and assimilate into their new communities.
Your expertise and knowledge of the clients' cultural backgrounds will also be used to support MYC staff to develop their cultural awareness and skills.
To be successful in one of these exciting positions you will be fluent in Arabic or Farsi. You will have a Cert IV in Youth Work or equivalent, some experience in facilitating workshops, mediation skills as well as excellent understanding of the issuing facing asylum seekers and refugees. You're to be highly developed in your written and verbal communications skills as this will be essential in this role. And finally your sensitivity to the cultural needs and awareness of asylum seekers and refugees allowing you to be both patience and diplomatic shall be a primary factor.
