Marrickville Legal Centre’s large geographical catchment area crosses 12 former Local Government Areas.1The Centre specialises in servicing culturally and linguistically diverse clients and targets young people, tenants and women in domestic violence situations. The Centre prioritises service delivery to indigenous people, people with a disability, people with a mental illness, older people, gay, lesbian and transgender people, economically disadvantaged people and homeless people.

Role and Context of the Position

Marrickville Legal Centre provides access to justice through the provision of legal services, including community legal education, particularly for people who are disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances.

This position is specifically for the provision of legal services (legal advice, casework and representation) in the area of family law,  prioritising individuals who have been affected by family violence. Given the multiple and complex issues confronted by people affected by family violence, this position may also at times be required to provide legal services in civil law matters related to an individual’s experience of family violence (for example, advice on apprehended domestic violence orders, and advice and casework assistance on victims’ compensation).

This position will be based primarily at Marrickville Legal Centre’s offices in Marrickville.

This position will also involve regular travel to outreach locations across metropolitan Sydney for the purpose of delivering legal advice clinics and legal education, as well as out-of-hours work to supervise evening advice (once weekly) and weekend work to participate in community activities and events (occasionally).
