About the role

The Business Services primary function is to provide financial analysis on the various aspects of the organisation, financial planning, tender costing, advice and other advisory services to drive organisational strategy, ensure financial sustainability and business agility. Finance, as part of the Business Services stream, delivers deliver financial operations, finance systems, management reporting, external reporting and asset management with the aim to achieve consistent service delivery and comply with internal and external policy, standards and practice.

We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated Assistant Accountant for a new permanent, full time opportunity to work at our Central Office in the Heidelberg area. With work from home options, you will perform financial accounting, reporting and analysis as well as complete acquittals and maintain the fixed asset register. The Assistant Accountant will support the Senior Accountant and Financial Controller with the preparation of monthly financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and finalise accurate, compliant management, financial and taxation reporting.
  • Maintain, reconcile and review the fixed asset register, bank accounts, receipts, payroll clearing and superannuation account to the general ledger.
  • Prepare and post compliant journals in line with policy and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Prepare and submit acquittals for external stakeholders, compare financial data with performance data and liaise with managers to finalise acquittals.
  • Support the Financial Controller with investment decisions, prepare cash flows and assist the management team to understand and analyse management accounts and variance analysis.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce and/or equivalent experience with a CPA, CA or CIMA membership.
  • Proven Assistant Accountant experience and understanding of the NFP, Community Services, Mental Health, Housing, Healthcare or Government sectors is highly desirable.
  • Solid analytical and problem solving with ability to perform financial and operational analysis.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge of TechnologyOne, Power BI or dashboard reporting tools, Excel and financial modelling.
