About the Role

A Peer Practitioner is someone who has had a personal lived experience of mental ill health and recovery including utilising services from a mental health service or individual provider.

The Country Wellness Connections or “CWC” program aims to provide psychosocial support services to assist people with mental illness. These services, in partnership with families and carers (as appropriate), provide a range of non-clinical community-based support to these individuals to achieve their recovery goals.

Reporting to the Service Manager, your duties will include:

  • Utilising your lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to provide specialist services to clients, families and carers
  • Working in partnership with clinical services and other key stakeholders
  • Developing rapport and trusting relationships with clients
  • Assisting client to build networks and support which will help them once they have exited the service

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field as designated by Mind
  • Training, qualifications or professional development in area of specialty
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A positive attitude to the work

Mind Provides the Following to Peer Practitioners:

  • A five day peer training course
  • Regular peer supervision
  • Support from an existing team dedicated to promoting the voice of lived experience within Mind
