About the role

The Government is establishing a new service to assist young people aged 15-21 years who are not in employment or education. The Transition to Work service will provide intensive, pre-employment support to improve the Work readiness of young people and to help them into work (including Apprenticeships or Traineeships) or education. The service will have a strong focus on helping young people to understand what is expected in the workplace and to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours expected by Employers.

The Youth Employment Specialist is responsible for assisting young people gain sustainable employment and / or education through helping them overcome their vocational and non-vocational barriers to employment.

Duties

• Conduct assessments to determine participants existing vocational & non-vocational barriers to employment
• Develop and record individualised Job Plans for every eligible participant
• Establish a strong knowledge of the local employment market & identify suitable clients to meet local business needs
• Develop & implement individual and group training workshops including: literacy, numeracy, oral communication, computer literacy and other employability skills
• Hold regular review meetings with participants to track their progress to their Job Plans.

Qualifications & experience

• Experience in Youth Services, Jobactive Services or case management is desirable
• Tertiary qualifications in youth, employment services, career counselling community services or related field is advantageous
• Experience in working with vulnerable people / and or young people
• Current Driver's Licence / Flexibility to travel across a region as required
• Availability to interview week commencing 21^st March 2016
• Ability to commence early to mid-April 2016.
