About the Paediatric Allergy and Immunology Service at Monash Children’s Hospital

Melbourne has the highest documented prevalence of challenge proven food allergy in the world, with 1 in every 10 infants affected. The Paediatric Allergy service commenced in 2020 with outpatient Allergy Clinics, a skin prick testing service, and an inpatient challenge facility. This service collaborates with consumer groups, primary health networks, and community paediatricians and allergists to deliver an efficient, effective, and equitable model of care. The development of an integrated pathway supporting consumers, GPs and community paediatricians allows the majority children with allergy in SE Victoria to be seen locally and rapidly, with specialist services at MCH seeing the most severe cases and providing safe testing and challenge services at Monash Children’s Hospital.
