The opportunity

Are you a passionate genetic counsellor looking to make a meaningful impact in the field of genetics and genomics?

As part of a new Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance (MGHA) funded clinical care intervention, we have an exciting opportunity for a skilled genetic counsellor to join our laboratory team.

Laboratory genetic counsellors play a vital role in the effective delivery of the VCGS genetic and genomic test suite. Your primary responsibility will be to provide support for a trial and evaluation of a Contact Service aimed at supporting paediatricians to request Medicare funded exome testing.

This is a 12-month 0.6 position, reporting to the Head of Service Delivery and Development. You will work closely with the clinical liaison team, laboratory genetic counsellors, VCGS clinical genomics laboratory and the MGHA research team to ensure the success of this intervention.

Your responsibilities will include accurate communication of information to health professionals, contributing to the development of the MGHA website content, collecting and overseeing the collection of process and outcome data, providing education to health professionals, and collaborating with key stakeholders to establish efficient processes for timely support delivery.

Your responsibilities include:

• Provide support to paediatricians regarding Medicare funded Childhood syndrome exome testing
• Promptly respond to enquiries from paediatricians and other relevant healthcare professionals across Victoria
• Respond to requests from laboratory teams to source additional clinical information about requests.
• Exercise initiative and demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by offering suggestions for and actively contributing to service delivery and process improvement
• Draft clinical content to contribute to the development of education and marketing materials relevant to this project in collaboration with laboratory, clinical liaison, VCGS communications and the Melbourne Genomics research teams

About you

• Master of Genetic Counselling that fulfils the academic requirements for Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) Board Eligible status, or previously attained Member of HGSA (Genetic Counselling)
• Knowledge and understanding of genetic counselling, including medical, genetic and psychosocial aspects
• Knowledge of genetic and genomic testing
• Ability to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships
• Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
