Position Summary :

Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation (MCAC) is the representative body for the Anangu residents of Mutitjulu. It is recognised in the lease which establishes Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park (UKTNP) and has a special place in the history of land rights in Australia. Mutitjulu has a population of up to 400 and has unique opportunities and challenges due to its location within Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park (UKTNP).

About the Role

This role is directly employed under MCAC's subsidiary arm, Gumlake Enterprises Pty Ltd. Gumlake Enterprises is a separate entity to MCAC, and owns and operates:

  • Walkatjara Arts
  • Ininti Cafe
  • Ininti Store

While Gumlake is a separate enterprise arm, it draws directly from MCAC's operational management, human resource management and financial management systems. Gumlake staff are therefore employed under the same systems, conditions and expectations as MCAC employees.

As the Cafe Manager, your duties include being responsible for the entire running of the cafe, developing a quality local range of souvenir products for sale, overseeing peak service periods, recruitment, training & developing staff, marketing and developing the business footprint, ensuring a positive guest experience for all visitors of UKTNP.

Key Requirements :

  • High level of literacy and numeracy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the organisations policies and procedures 
  • Detailed and up to date knowledge of preparation and presentation of all menu items including both food and beverage
  • Knowledge of workplace health & safety regulations and relevant industrial relation regulations
  • Able to read and understand an income and expenditure report and cash flow analysis
  • Able to establish clear lines of communication with staff, management and suppliers
  • Pro-active, positive, enthusiastic, energetic, responsible and friendly
  • Professional business attitude
  • Provide positive, constructive feedback for staff

  • Focused on ensuring open communication and good working relationships with all staff

Job Responsibility :

  • Responsible for driving a culture of customer service excellence, and supporting all cafe team members to achieve that goal
  • Responsible for ensuring profitability is maintained, without compromising agreed service standards
  • Writing of rosters and shift planning
  • Work alongside and supervise all cafe team members
  • Able to perform & delegate all key duties of other positions
  • On-call for any emergencies and any unexpected store or staffing requirements
  • Accurately record sales and banking
  • Investigate, explain & report on any discrepancies to management
  • Recruits, inducts, trains employees to create a motivated and high performing team
  • Maintain stock control through recording & monitoring wastage, accurate monthly stocktakes, effective ordering/receiving and storage procedures
  • Negotiate with suppliers
  • Training and ongoing development of all team members
  • Enforce daily and weekly systems and procedures to ensure a high level of presentation, hygiene, service, product quality and security
  • Effectively discipline and praise staff as required
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the store is in alignment with food safety
