Key responsibilities

To inform: Older volunteers are supported to provide information to older people in the Western Australia community to increase awareness of elder abuse and assist in its prevention.

• Assist in the delivery of presentations to community groups on the topic of elder abuse and positive ageing
• Distribute information throughout networks

To connect and participate

Older Western Australians are empowered to connect to, and participate in, the broader community

• Attend monthly volunteer meetings to share information, provide support to other volunteers and continue to update knowledge and skills.
• Connecting individuals and groups to initiatives like the Purple Road; OPRS events such as Seniors’ Week and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)

Raise awareness of elder abuse and positive ageing

• Discussions occur about the issue of elder abuse, which promotes prevention and early intervention.
• Discussions occur about positive ageing and ageism, which reduces stereotypes and negative feelings about ageing

Record keeping

• Record details of engagement and contact details
• Record conversations, stories and case studies relevant to use for promotion and events.
• Obtain a signed media and photography forms
• Seeking evaluation from participants on the day of presentation and follow up on-line

Must be:

• Able to attend training (3-part training series, half day, first three Tuesdays in February 2023)
• Able to commit to volunteering for a minimum of six months
• Ability to travel independently to various locations
• Available to present to one community group per month
• Preference given to people over 60 years old (peer to peer)

Requirements:

• National Police Certificate – other reference checks and screening may be required in certain situations
• Valid Driver’s Licence
• Covid-19 Vaccination as directed by WA Government at time of appointment.
