Background to the position
In partnership with Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHC) and a website/app development partner agency, the Northern Territory Council of Social Service (NTCOSS) has developed an online service directory to support and inform the sector in delivering and linking families to services using a software solution that offers a flexible platform that meets the functional requirements of the Northern Territory (NT) community services sector, NT government agencies and the community.
In this newly created role, using a project management framework, you will work with our identified partners to increase traffic and use of the online directory, consult with the sector to enhance the user experience and ensure that the improvements made to the website/app are aligned with feedback.
Statement of Duties
Summary of main duties to be performed, listed with equal priority:
- Contact/follow up organisations and support them to correctly add, edit and maintain their listings, ensuring that their data and information is correct and current.
- Identify other service areas (local Government, NTG, NFP, NGO, medical providers etc.) and facilitate their addition to the platform, to assist with broadening the sorts of services captured on the directory.
- Facilitate online workshops with services to assist them successfully navigate the website in addition to promptly responding to questions from individual organisations.
- Work closely with website and app developer partner agency, to ensure all IT issues are rectified and back end website information is correct.
- Facilitate consultation with sector representatives to gather feedback and trends from organisations across all regions of the NT, with the aim to improve the functionality of the website and app, for the benefit of the end user.
- Build a strong awareness of NTCOSS and NTcommunity across all regions of the Northern Territory through facilitation of regular engagement opportunities, such as attending network meetings and forums.
- Produce regular status update reports to all project partners, demonstrating progress.
- Explore and develop opportunities for project generated funding to ensure long term sustainability of project.
- Other related duties as required by the Operations Manager and CEO.
Position Attributes

The Project Officer will have:
- Awareness of the contemporary social policy environment in the Northern Territory, community sector and the role of peak bodies.
- Tertiary qualifications in the community sector with additional study in a relevant field, such as project management, business or IT.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences and prepare reports, submissions, and discussion papers in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, including excellent time management, planning skills and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Competent use of Microsoft Office 365 (and associated apps), WordPress, Zoom, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in partnerships with key stakeholders including partner agencies, governments, social and community sector organisations, and Aboriginal controlled organisations.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice principles.
- A preparedness to undertake some interstate and regional travel within the NT.
- A current NT Working with Children Card, a current NT driver licence and evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination status.
- It would also be desirable to have experience working within the community sector in the NT, including working with Aboriginal controlled.
