The Manager, Priority Populations will be responsible for leading, planning and coordinating of commissioning activities to improve health outcomes, particularly Aboriginal people and those at risk of suicide. The manager will work collaboratively across teams and use effective stakeholder engagement and management skills to ensure insight of people with lived experience while realising strategic alignments. You will focus on opportunities to develop and implement a regional suicide prevention action plan, which has been informed by national, state and local agreements and supported through the engagement of multistakeholder suicide prevention governance / steering group.

We are North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), Victoria's largest independent, locally governed and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care in our community.

What are PHNs?

PHNs have been established with two key objectives:

  • increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of services for community members, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes
  • improving coordination of care to ensure people receive the right care in the right place, at the right time

A typical week may include:

  • Identifying service users, community representatives, service providers and other applicable parties to build strong relationships to improve service models for equitable care and access
  • Promoting strong internal relationships as a key member of the Service Development and Reform Management Team while leading development and review of individual, team, and organisational work/ development plans, and supporting staff to always deliver organisational excellence
  • Engaging service users, clinicians, key stakeholders and community to guide service development and improvement
  • Delivering all applicable programs and services in accordance with funding schedules and organisational policies
  • Working with the Director to ensure data collection and reporting is relevant, timely, accurate and accessible, and that monitoring of performance is integrated into all programs and services to meet requirements of Commonwealth, State and other funders

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary qualifications in health, health service management or a related field
  • Demonstrated managerial skills to lead and manage a team of staff in a dynamic and changing environment while
  • Experience building effective relationships and supportive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including health and hospital networks, government and non-government organisations, community leaders and people with lived experience
  • Coordinating and managing successful multi-stakeholder projects or programs, including an ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Understanding of the primary mental health care, Suicide Prevention and/or Aboriginal health systems and key policy drivers and reform directions
