About the NLC

About the Role
The Regional Program Coordinator works collaboratively with program support staff, ranger group and Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) coordinators and government agencies to support the management of Aboriginal ranger programs, IPA projects, Commonwealth and NT National Park joint management arrangements, and other regional land and sea management priorities as directed by our constituents.
The Regional Program Coordinator will be required to lead and manage a small team of Darwin and remotely based staff to plan and implement regional Caring for Country programs. This position is responsible for annual project and budget development and monitoring, reporting to Traditional Owners, the Northern Land Council Full Council and funding providers. The Regional Program Coordinator ensures cultural governance requirements are fulfilled, and ranger group training and career development opportunities are identified and addressed. This role also supports parks joint management activities and initiatives in partnership with the relevant Australian and NT government agencies.
Whilst the position is based in Darwin, significant travel to the Borroloola/Barkly and Victoria River District may be required.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a small team of dispersed staff to manage ranger programs, IPA, carbon and park joint management projects.
- Ensure compliance with funding agreements, other contractual requirements and NLC policies in general.
- Ensure a high standard is maintained in preparing and managing annual work plans, statutory reporting and budget management.
- Supervise and mentor staff, identify individual training and mentoring priorities, conduct annual performance reviews and develop opportunities for career progression.
- Identify local level capacity needs that impact on the ability of the ranger groups and IPA managers to deliver on their priorities and develop solutions.
- Provide advice and assistance to coordinators and rangers in preparing funding proposals and other representations to government and non-government agencies.
- Provide policy and program advice to traditional owners, the NLC and program partners on matters relating to the management of cultural and natural resources, employment and economic development.
- In consultation with Traditional Owners, identify opportunities for funding, fee for service and other activities which can grow and make our programs more sustainable in each of the NLC regions.
- Represent (as required) the Northern Land Council in various forums.
About you
To thrive in this role you will have:
- Significant demonstrated knowledge, understanding and respect of Indigenous Australian culture, customs and society and the ability to gain and maintain credibility with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations to ensure all work produced and undertaken is culturally safe and appropriate.
- Completion of Tertiary qualifications in natural and cultural resource management or a relevant related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams of people within a cross cultural context, lead change, and manage complex political and staff management issues within a remote context.
- Experience liaising with government and non-government agencies, negotiating funding and/or other types of program support and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills of a high order, including demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- The ability to maintain a valid working with children clearance (Ochre card) as well as a manual drivers licence and a willingness to travel to remote regions for work purposes.
Remuneration and Benefits:
- Full Time Permanent Contract
- Location: Darwin
- Salary: $90,619 - $118,142 per annum
- Allowances, e.g. district and airfare allowances
- FBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay
- 13% superannuation contribution
- 5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loading
