Hume Community Housing provides homes and services to more than 9,000 customers across New South Wales. Hume believes that having a safe, secure and affordable home is a human right and an important first step to building a stable and prosperous future.

Hume builds new properties, manages tenancies for owners, and provides services and support to diverse customers through a range of partnerships. These include temporary accommodation, private rental support, social and affordable housing, seniors and youth housing and a range of ‘wrap-around’ services and community engagement programs.

As a registered Specialist Disability Service provider under the NDIS, Hume also provides specialist housing options to over 500 customers in shared accommodation and individual living models.

Hume takes a ‘housing-first’ approach, providing safe, secure and sustainable housing in the first instance. Hume works with customers to determine their housing options and support them to secure and maintain their rental tenancy through the provision of person-centred and strengths-based support services.

The opportunity

The Board are seeking to appoint an experienced, values-aligned leader to drive the next stage of Hume’s organisational journey. Initial key priorities for the role are:

  • To drive the growth and success of the organisation by actively sourcing additional funding and identifying opportunities for growth in areas aligned to Hume strategy and philosophy.
  • To champion a customer-focused organisation that engages and consults with customers – delivering social justice and equal access to housing and support services.
  • To support the Strategic Plan by ensuring effective policies, processes and systems are in place that enable the delivery of the strategic and operational plans.

To be successful in the role you will bring:

  • Relevant experience as a CEO or senior executive in a similar or values aligned organisation. While experience in the community housing, disability, not for profit or aged care will be highly regarded it is not essential. The Board will welcome applications from senior executives with commercial sector experience, underpinned by a strong commitment to the values of Hume.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving and executing a growth strategy to achieve lasting positive social impact.
  • A strengths-based leadership style to build a highly collaborative and customer-focused organisational culture aligned to organisational strategy.
  • Proven capacity to drive financial performance and to effectively manage risk in a complex business.
  • Extensive stakeholder engagement with government, industry, philanthropy and service providers
  • Outstanding negotiation, interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Tertiary qualifications.
