We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Team Leader to join our Care Services team at Kaahui Whetuu, in the role of Team Leader Clinical Programmes. Kaahui Whetuu provides residential care to tamariki and rangatahi in a community setting. We work to keep our young people connected to the positive influences in their lives - mentors, whānau, work and community-based programmes.

A key focus of this role is to ensure the care team around each young person have appropriate clinical advice and support to ensure therapeutic services are tailored in line with a consistent therapeutic approach that encompasses the stories and needs of our young people as individuals.

What you will do?

• Ensure that interventions, programmes and steps are put in place for each tamariki and rangatahi that effectively addresses underlying trauma, health, mental health and disability needs, and sensory and behavioural difficulties
• Facilitate and monitor adherence to and consistency with Oranga Tamariki's vision and values, the National Care Standards, and Practice Frameworks
• Support the implementation of therapeutic interventions that are rolled out nationally across care and protection residential services
• Provide individual and group professional leadership, support, supervision, skills and knowledge
• Provide oversight to ensure accurate documentation of clinical assessments, plans and interventions
• Develop local and regional relationships with key stakeholders and ensure that appropriate clinical services are available to children and young people
• Fulfil the administrative and management requirements of the role

What you will bring?

• Masters level qualification in psychology, social work, nursing (in mental health) or another related field
• Two years minimum clinical and therapeutic experience coordinating work within a multi-disciplinary setting with children and young people to address complex behavioural issues
• A high level of competence in working in a trauma-informed therapeutic care model
• Strong focus on the development and delivery of therapeutic services
• Ability to lead the implementation of national clinical training/programmes for residential services
• An in-depth knowledge of child and adolescent development, the impact of trauma, abuse and neglect and of sensory integration theory
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to your audience
• The ability to lead a team of case leaders to ensure excellence in casework
• Strong engagement and relationship building skills
• An understanding of psychological formulation and how this informs planning and therapeutic interventions
• Understanding of developmental psychology, and of the impact of individual and intergenerational cultural trauma
• Empathy, patience and ability to see past what someone may be struggling with
• The ability to manage risk and make difficult decisions
• Ability to discern and unpack complex situations and to support staff in managing

What team you will work with?

This role forms part of the leadership team at Kaahui Whetuu, leading a team of three to five you will be part of a larger team who support three residences in the South Auckland area.

You will work closely with external providers from Counties Manukau Health and the Police as well as other agencies, this makes the role unique and the outcomes, being a small win or larger, hugely rewarding. The diversity in this role provides the flexibility in the use of evidence-based therapy models and intervention tools to achieve possible outcomes for tamariki and their whanau.
