The START Court (Adult) Program:
This program supports adults with mental health issues. Outcare Community Support Coordinators work alongside the Start Court Mental Health Team to address the individual’s needs, improve their mental health and link them with appropriate services in the community.
Start Court is a Magistrates Court that specialises in dealing with offenders who have mental health issues. It is based within the Central Law Courts in the Perth CBD.
In conjunction with Outcare, we provide therapeutic support to help our clients with their rehabilitation.
This can include help with:
- Accommodation
- Employment and training
- Alcohol and drug support
- Mental and physical health
Most participants involved with Start Court can be diverted from a custodial sentence.
The Role:
As the Community Support Service Coordinator, you will be responsible for working in a person-centred approach with the strengths and needs of the client, their family and their careers. Your goal in this position is to successfully integrate clients into the community by providing them with ongoing support and assistance.
The role involves planning, developing and implementing activities with clients that will help reduce their risk factors for re-offending.
Role Responsibilities:
- Effectively identify client needs and provide support in fulfilling these needs by encouraging participation in community activities and relevant psychological programs
- Provide a structured personal support plan that accommodates the needs of the client, in conjunction with the LINKS and START Court Program
- Assist clients in accessing relevant services based on their Order, to be implemented as directed by the Courts
- Ensure all services provided comply with the current National Standards for Mental Health
- Accurately document and record all case information and client related data, while complying with Outcare's policies
What you'll need:
- Tertiary qualification in one or more of human service fields, or relevant experience
- Mental First Aid certificate
- Previous experience working with offenders, ex-offenders, and their families in a community setting
- Substantial experience in managing complex behaviour and working with clients with mental health issues
- High level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to engage, interact with a wide range of people, including clients, internal staff, government agencies and other stakeholders
- Knowledge of the current National Standards for Mental Health Services
Other essential requirements:
- Australian Driver's Licence
- Current WA Working with Children’s Check or willingness to obtain one
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (only from our preferred provider, link will be sent to shortlisted candidates)
- Provide First Aid HLTAID003
- Computer literate in Microsoft Word at a minimum
