People with Disability Australia (PWDA) is a national disability rights organisation. Its membership is made up of people with disability and organisations primarily constituted by people with disability. PWDA was founded in 1981, the International Year of Disabled Persons, to provide people with disability with a voice of our own. PWDA has a cross disability focus – we represent the interests of people with all kinds of disability. PWDA is a non-profit, non-government organisation. We employ over 50 staff with 25% working in regional areas.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Finance Manager will handle the day-to-day finance / accounting functions and operations for PwDA.

Responsibilities & Main Duties

Key result areas:

  • Accurate and efficient processing of transactions;
  • Accounts payable, purchase order management, accounts receivable and credit card reconciliation;
  • Run payroll fortnightly (approx. 65 staff)
  • Month-end and year-end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts;
  • Reporting and interpreting financial information;
  • Participation in planning, implementing and monitoring of company-wide budgets
  • Participation in planning, implementing, reporting and evaluating any potential opportunities, initiatives or threats.
  • Collaborating with PwDA’s outsourced CFO

Responsibilities

Financial

  • Timely processing of all financial transactions using Xero accounting software;
  • Process payroll and manage all related obligations
  • Maintain the general ledger reconciliations template monthly to justify balance sheet balances and process journals
  • Timely month-end close-off of accounts and management reporting
  • Adjustments, reconciliations and reports as required, but particularly at end of period;
  • Assist with budget preparation;
  • Assist with cashflow forecasting;
  • Assist with audit and end of year processes;
  • Ensure allocations to various internal departments are recorded accurately;
  • Manage finance systems such as Dext Prepare (for accounts payable), KeyPay for payroll and Xero for general ledger
  • Invoice debtors, pay creditors;
  • Reconcile the bank statements;
  • Assist in the preparation of acquittals for grants and project reports;
  • Ensure finance related Policies, procedures and training materials remain current
  • Other duties as required and directed by CFO and DPC

Administration & Process

  • Ensure compliance to statutory and legal requirements, under the direction of the CFO and DPC;
  • Timely processing and lodgement of superannuation filing;
  • Report irregularities or concerns to the CFO and DPC;
  • Participation in planning, implementing, reporting and evaluating any potential opportunities, initiatives or threats;
  • Undertake Human Resources administrative functions where related to payroll, including reconciling employee system;
  • Produce cards and process payments for the Qantas Carers Concession Card
  • Administer all banking related activities such as account administration, trouble-shooting and solution-finding with banking institutions;
  • Design processes relating to finance and accounting to meet internal and external requirements in cooperation with CFO and DPC;
  • Other duties as required and directed by CFO and DPC.

Members / Customers

  • Assist the CEO and Deputy CEO to achieve the strategic goals for the organisation;
  • Assisting others in the PwDA team with enquiries.

People

  • Provide staff with information and advice in relation to payroll functions, including but not limited to leave calculations and finance related internal HR policies.

Selection Criteria

Essential

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Business Studies or similar.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced level user of Excel and experience with spreadsheets;
  • Proficiency in using cloud based accounting systems, in particular Xero;
  • Experience in financial and administrative duties.

Experience

  • More than 5 years hands-on experience with accounting software including payroll functionality.
  • Working in a finance function with a large number of internal stakeholders and high communications requirements

Values

  • Lived experience of disability.
  • Experience in the finance function of a non-profit organisation.

RENUMERATION

This is a Permanent - 28 to 35 hrs/week Hybrid working - in the office and from home. Award Classification is Level 6 under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010. PWDA pays above the Award.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Working with Children Check

PWDA is a registered employer under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act, 2012. The successful applicant must be approved under the Working with Children Check prior to taking up appointment.

  • Police Check

PWDA receives funding from Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC), NSW Department of Families and Community Services (FACS) under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014. The successful applicant must satisfy the Police Check requirements prior to taking up appointment.

  • Australian Government Covid 19 Vaccination Certificate and adherence to the PWDA Covid Vaccination Policy
  • Six-month probationary period.
