ANZ is committed to deepening its understanding, focus and priority on walking alongside First Nations communities, employees, and customers. The Head of First Nations Strategy will play a critical role in providing a voice to inform the bank’s approach to First Nations affairs.

As Head of First Nations Strategy, you will be responsible for providing First Nations leadership within the organisation. This role will work across the bank to develop and implement a First Nations-led approach to a broader First Nations strategy, of which ANZ’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) will continue to be a key element.

This is a newly-created Executive role and while the key accountabilities are listed below, the successful candidate will have the opportunity, flexibility and support to craft the role to make it their own.

Your key accountabilities in this role will include:

  • Lead the development of a broad First Nations strategy, including oversight of its governance and implementation.
  • Establish the appropriate governance and resourcing of the First Nations strategy.
  • Lead the development of ANZ’s next RAP, including partnering with senior stakeholders.
  • Relationship Lead for key external partnerships, First Nations advisors and representing ANZ at external events and working groups.
  • Provide thought leadership on First Nations issues and opportunities.
  • Drive strategic and transformational change for ANZ and to embed First Nations voices within the fabric of our culture.
  • Role model and promote ANZ values, Create.Deliver.Together behaviours and our aspirational culture.

About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing, leading and implementing a strategy in a large organisational context to enable impactful outcomes.
  • Deep and broad connection to First Nations communities, networks and cultures.
  • Experience in working within a large, complex organisation and a proven capability to work horizontally in a highly collaborative way with other internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment and a strong growth mindset.

  • RAP Executive Sponsor (currently Group General Counsel)
  • RAP Steering Committee
  • Ngarga Wangaddja (ANZ’s internal First Nations employee reference group)
