About the organisation

Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) manages over 1,500 rental properties for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander residents in Victoria. Our goal is to ensure that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples residing in Victoria have access to appropriate, affordable housing, fostering better lives and stronger communities.

As Australia's largest Aboriginal Registered Housing Agency, AHV leads Victoria's Aboriginal housing and homelessness policy, working in partnership with the government to secure resources and reforms. AHV's targeted housing services, provided by an Aboriginal Rental Provider, strengthen, and maintain Aboriginal communities and cultural ties.

About the role

The Manager Community Housing leads the delivery of culturally appropriate tenancy services, ensuring consistent and sustained management. They oversee direct client services, ensuring effectiveness and targeting, and support clients in accessing more complex services. The role ensures AHV's tenancy services meet statutory obligations and key performance indicators. Managing a team of housing officers across metropolitan and regional Victoria, the Manager coordinates all aspects of Tenancy Management. Additionally, they provide oversight for the Senior Housing Officer group, Performance and Reporting roles, and the Allocations Coordinator, ensuring leadership, development, and performance to achieve excellence in service delivery and tenancy management functions.

About you

The Manager Aboriginal Housing Services will have demonstrated leadership skills that will oversee the effective operations of AHV's Tenancy team. They will be culturally connected to ensure culturally appropriate allocations, support, and compliance with tenancy obligations. They will develop procedures, monitor, and report on performance, and ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislation. They will be collaborative utilising their strategic and integrated approach to tenancy implementation and staff development.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrate awareness and respect for Aboriginal cultures, understanding contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal communities, particularly in the Victoria region.
  • Proven experience in leading high-performing teams, adept at managing competing priorities.
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining internal and external stakeholder partnerships.
  • Capacity to be a change leader, driving continuous improvement in management processes, with demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of community housing, including compliance with Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Act.
