About the Branch

The First Nations Economic Wellbeing Branch is working to improve outcomes for First Nations people in NSW by building a culturally informed evidence base.

We are responsible for supporting Treasury and the wider sector’s capability to design, evaluate and conduct economic appraisal of First Nations initiatives.

We also take a leading role in identifying opportunities for enabling First Nations economic prosperity through strategic projects and consultation.

Your day as a Senior Analyst

Your typical day-to-day work includes contributing to the development and implementation of strategies, frameworks and reforms that impact First Nations people and communities, with the aim of improving policy design and public investment decisions in New South Wales.

This work will help to identify ‘what works’ in improving outcomes for First Nations people and build capacity in teams across Treasury to work towards these goals in partnership with First Nations communities.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of public policy and/or economic concepts that impact First Nations communities.
  • Ability to use qualitative and/or quantitative analysis to derive insights
  • Support the delivery of projects through project management including scoping, planning, and risk mitigation.
  • Relevant experience drafting clear and concise presentations, briefings, correspondence, and reports.
  • Ability to provide culturally informed advice to agencies in line with Treasury guidance and frameworks
  • Ability to establish and maintain culturally sensitive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations, and stakeholders.

  • A clear communicator with the ability to write and communicate in a concise way.
