Pormpuraaw Art and Culture Centre Incorporated is a creative and supportive space that offers community opportunities for professional and economic development. The Centre is a ‘keeping’ place’ for local artefacts, photographs, language, stories, art, and other items that need to be preserved and available for future generations.

Working closely with the Management Committee, the Art Centre Manager will:

• Support and inspire the professional development of artists and promote their works
• Supervise a small team of staff
• Have experience in print making, sculpture, painting and public art
• Build and maintain relationships with community, artists, young people, community stakeholders and within the art sector
• Highly developed written skills to submit grant applications, acquittals and reports
• Develop and manage a range of annual art exhibitions (incl. CIAF, Darwin Art Fair and Taranathi)
• Possess strong financial, analytical and operational skills to effectively manage the administration of the Centre.
• Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs. This includes providing governance to the elected Art Centre Committee.
• Act as ‘agent’ for artists, art sales, leasing copyrights, manage commissions, contracts, art fairs.

Experience living and working in a remote community is ideal. You must have an understanding of Aboriginal communities as this job is based in a remote community and promoting and preserving culture is a significant part of the role. The base salary package is $92,000 per annum in addition, other competitive allowance and entitlements are also offered and will be discussed at the interview.
