
We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our QCGP+ multidisciplinary health team at the Queensland Council (QC) for LGBTI Health (formerly known as Queensland AIDS Council). This role is a full time equivalent (FTE) position but we would consider a job share arrangement. The RN provides primary health care services, Sexually Transmissible Infection (STI) testing and treatment and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) and Sistergirl or Brotherboy clients. More broadly, the RN will Lead, with Clinical Delegation, care and support for our clients and communities statewide.
The role
The RN is vital in assisting with the provision of quality health care to clients under the direction of the General Practitioners and planning and implementing relevant and healthcare interventions within their scope of practice. At all times the RN must maintain high clinical standards and continuously demonstrate professional standards as outlined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. They must maintain up to date knowledge, standards and practices in LGBTI health in keeping with the service’s focus on these areas.
The RN demonstrates quality attributes and proficiency to ensure the highest quality client care in congruence with QC’s values and mission. They must establish rapport with clients and have excellent communication skills, in particular the capacity to communicate complex information and assist clients to make informed decisions.
ESSENTIAL
- Demonstrated judgmental free client focused approach to service provision
- Experience working in a primary health care setting (experience in Sexual Health, HIV Management and Care, Gender Affirming Care, and Chronic Conditions Management would be highly desirable)
- Ability to apply leadership skills within program and team settings
- Ability to self-assess performance and assume responsibility and accountability for own professional development
- Willingness to learn on the job and adapt to changing and challenging environments
- Demonstrated experience adhering to strict client confidentiality standards
- Excellent time management skills including the ability to appropriately prioritise a range of tasks
- Knowledge of and experience with general practice software systems and the Australian health care system; HHS, PHNs.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of and empathy with the issues facing LGBTI and Sistergirl / Brotherboy communities.
- Current practicing Certificate of registration with AHPRA
- Current Phlebotomy certificate and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working closely alongside, and providing clinical supervision for, our Endorsed Enrolled Nurse
- Perform primary care nursing duties, in partnership with our EEN, including:
- Check emergency drugs and equipment at beginning of each shift
- Record temperatures of vaccine fridges at beginning of each shift
- Apply appropriate wound care to patients upon GP request
- Administer medication as ordered (IMI, vaccinations)
- Assist in maintaining stock levels (medication, dressings, clinical supplies)
- Clean instruments as required
- Manage clinical supplies and operational equipment where relevant
- Check medicine expiry dates
- Collaborate, consult with and formally refer clients and patients to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
- Critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices and introduce education and evidence-based research practices.
- Assess and recognise health trends; ability to plan and implement strategies for population based prevention and health promotion.
- Self-direct, interact and adapt effectively with other professionals in complex, dynamic situations.
- Transfer knowledge, teach, coach and mentor others including students
