headspace Batemans Bay provides young people with access to Allied Health Professionals and community supports that they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence to live healthy and happy lives. The centre also engages in community awareness and seeks to develop and implement innovative programs to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the region. Relationships Australia Canberra & Region is the lead agency for headspace Batemans Bay and is supported by a Consortium.

Your new role

• Part time (minimum 0.8 FTE), fixed term up to June 2025
• Located in Batemans Bay, NSW
• Annual salary between $82,036.26 to $88,283.74

The Community Engagement Officer raises awareness about youth mental health and provides accessible information about mental health concerns and service systems. The role will ensure that communication and awareness strategies will effectively engage and cater to young people, carers, service providers and the general community. 

Duties:

In consultation with the Centre Manager, headspace Batemans Bay, the Community Engagement Officer:

• assists in the development and implementation of a range of regional social youth engagement activities designed to raise awareness of youth mental health issues, including the development of specific actions for young people requiring stakeholder engagement and evaluation.
• is the key facilitator promoting and supporting the Youth Reference Group and the Family and Friends Reference Group.
• builds and maintains positive partnerships with key stakeholders and works collaboratively to develop and implement agreed activities.
• assists in the promotion and increases awareness of headspace Batemans Bay through events, product and partnership support.

What you’ll need to succeed

1. An appropriate tertiary qualification with experience in youth mental health – health literacy.
2. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver small group activities and presentations to various groups.
3. Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement and communication, particularly with young people.
4. Demonstrated experience with project or event management and managing online and social media content.
