Remote / Work from Home
Living Languages is a training organisation that works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language workers and communities across Australia. Our team works remotely from different parts of the country with our head office in Melbourne.
Our organisation supports the language maintenance, revitalisation and reclamation work being done on the ground by communities and language centres. We provide training in a number of different areas that assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to direct the growth or preservation of their languages - for themselves, led by themselves.
We work with experienced language workers and teachers as well as people that are just starting in their language journeys, providing training that is most relevant to their wants and needs. Our trainers usually travel to deliver training in communities that invite us and approach us for training, but currently most of our training has moved to online platforms.
Living Languages is looking for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to coordinate our online communications.
You will be a creative person who is passionate about First Languages, sharing stories and connecting authentically with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The position will involve managing the Living Languages website and our social media accounts to share information, news, and updates about our training and other activities, as well as resources and relevant opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working with their languages.
You will work closely with the Living Languages team to create engaging content; update information; and ensure our language and messaging is clear and consistent across all channels. The role also involves engaging with our social media followers by responding to incoming enquiries, comments and messages, and connecting people with other team members when required.
You will be provided with learning and professional development opportunities to support you to grow and succeed in the role.
This role would be ideal for someone who is working with their language or community part-time and looking for another part-time role with a language maintenance/revitalisation focus.
You will work part-time for two days a week (0.4 FTE) and can be based anywhere in Australia. You can choose to work from home or our Melbourne office.
At this stage we are offering a fixed term contract from January 2022 – June 2022 with the option to extend.
The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for the implementation of our Digital Media Strategy to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples engaged in language work.
The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and s 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and s 8(4) of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic). The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
