The Rule of Law Institute of Australia and its sister institute, Australia’s Magna Carta Institute, is an independent, politically non-partisan and Not-For-Profit education body established in 2009 to uphold the rule of law in Australia.
The Institute aims to promote discussion on important principles which underpin the rule of law. In achieving this, the Institute operates legal education programs and initiatives to provide young people with an understanding of the importance of rule of law principles and how they relate to contemporary issues. The Institute employs teachers and lawyers to coordinate legal education programs which include school visits, teachers training and court excursions.

It further engages with the community and government by commenting on Bills before Parliament, writing media articles and reports and speaking at conferences. Key areas of focus are the maintenance of the separation of powers, restricting the use of retrospective legislation, the presumption of innocence and access to justice.
The Legal Education Officer plays an important and diverse role in the day to day operations of the organisation. This is a part-time role (with the option to expand in the future).

This role will be offered to a successful applicant on a contract of employment for 12 months commencing in February 2019. This role would suit a young professional with initiative and determination or an experienced professional who enjoys flexibility and seeing results of their work. As a NFP organisation, we are looking for a resilient, flexible and independent person who can adapt to working in a changing environment. Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful applicant in line with skills and experience.

The location for the position is Macquarie Street in the Sydney CBD with the expectation of visiting courts and schools throughout metropolitan Sydney and occasionally interstate and in regional areas.
