RSPCA Qld are looking for a motivated animal welfare advocate to join their Inspectorate team in the Mackay region.

You will provide vital help to all creatures great and small by acting as an advocate to promote and enforce compliance with laws that regulate animal care and protection. As such you will not only conduct investigations into animal welfare incidents and perform a wide variety of animal rescues, but you will also provide education in a variety of areas. In this unique role, you are responsible for end-to-end management of cases, from investigation through to prosecution.

In your role you will:

  • Build positive and productive relationships with community and government stakeholders;
  • Interview witnesses and/or suspects to determine if any laws have been breached;
  • Seize animals in accordance with powers contained in the Animal Care and Protection Act;
  • Transport seized animals to place of care for treatment and/or temporary housing;
  • Collect physical, documentary, photographic, video and scientific evidence;
  • Where applicable, prepare and submit Briefs of Evidence to the Chief Inspector or Society's delegate;
  • Prepare, serve and register summons and other documents;
  • Attend court and present evidence at mentions, hearings and other legal actions, in relation to alleged offences against the Animal Care and Protection Act;
  • Provide animal owners with education and advice in relation to responsible pet ownership and basic animal care for animals under their control.

Key selection criteria:

  • Investigative experience;
  • Excellent communication, mediation and negotiation skills;
  • A demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service;
  • Excellent written and computer skills;
  • Good animal handling, health care and welfare experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Due to the nature of the role, employment is conditional on maintaining a valid current Open Qld Drivers’ License;
  • A Queensland Firearms License or the ability to obtain;
  • Certificate IV in Investigations or the ability to obtain;
  • Restricted Drug Authority or the ability to obtain.

This is a full time position servicing the Mackay region.

The ordinary working hours for the successful incumbent shall be a nominal 40 hours per week (on a 5 day roster, with the occasional weekend), being 38 ordinary hours and two (2) reasonable additional hours.

The salary range for this position begins at $58,470.57 (+ Super). Vehicle, iPad, iPhone and Laptop are included as part of the role.
