About the Role
We are currently searching for a motivated and experienced Animal Care Manager to join our Operations team in a permanent full-time capacity. This role will be reporting to the Head of Operations where you will be responsible for leading a team of staff and volunteers in the management of all metropolitan and regional Animal Care sites across RSPCA Victoria, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to all animals in our facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage, lead, and develop a team of staff and volunteers to the highest levels of performance, and engagement
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Animal Care and Operations business plan to deliver the required performance outcomes
- Oversee the management of all metropolitan and regional Animal Care sites across RSPCA Victoria, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to all animals in our facilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor strategies to improve the operations across all Animal Care sites to deliver the best welfare outcome for all animals in our care
- Provide support to the Community Programs Manager in maintaining relationships with local governments, including effectively managing the implementation of the organisation’s local government contracts and taking corrective action where required
What we are looking for from you
- Relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in the animal care field.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and multi faceted role where problem solving will be a regular requirement.
- Ability to work with competing demands and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Practice for the Operation of Shelters and Pounds.
- Extensive experience managing large diverse teams across various sites.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Strong oral and written communication.
- Experience managing and developing budgets and plans.
Desirable:
- Experience in the animal welfare sector
- Understanding of companion animal husbandry and care requirements.
Other requirements:
- Victorian driver’s licence
- A current tetanus vaccination (or willingness to obtain one).
