Child and Family Services Inc. (Cafs) has been supporting children and families as a proudly independent organisation for almost 160 years now. They partner with funders and the community to make a lasting difference in the lives of children, young people, families and individuals who need support. With a capable and committed Board in place who guide a strong strategic vision for the future, Cafs are well led, financially strong with an engaged working team that delivers 40+ innovative, specifically designed support programs to meet the needs of people right across the Victorian Central Highlands. As demand for their services continues to increase Cafs is needing to evolve to cater to support this growth and this newly created position will play a lead part in driving this evolution.
In leading the day-to-day operations across the organisation, the Deputy CEO will have a key role to play in this space. This shift will enable time for the CEO to operate at a more strategic and advocatory level to ensure that Cafs continues to support their growing community. The Deputy will support the CEO by managing risk, promote active team leadership and development in a number of areas, and widen Cafs stakeholder engagement, business development and growing community connections. Reviewing the current strategic plan to assess how the Executive and Leadership teams can work more effectively will ensure Cafs can continue to deliver in a period of fast growing need supporting complex clients. This will include business process mapping, assessing how systems can be improved and enhanced to facilitate better and easier ways to deliver outcomes. Attention will also be on implementing sustainable and cost effectiveness practices related to service delivery and to secure new sources of funding to support those areas of greatest need.
The CEO aims to expose the new Deputy CEO to all areas of the organisation to enable succession planning into the CEO role over the next few years. Responsible for up to six direct reports, this agile leader will need to quickly understand Cafs integration between how it is funded and subsequently delivered and the real time impact to the client. To that end we are looking for a person who has a track record of shaping sustainable change and leading the processes required to do so. We’ll be looking for evidence of real capability and talent with demonstrated experience in building effective high performing teams, dealing with multiple internal and external stakeholders, influencing outcomes, innovative problem solving and being genuinely comfortable and committed to working with diversity. Being able to reference children or adults in tough circumstances will be a real bonus.
Relevant tertiary qualifications together with exposure to and comfort in ICT and systems transformation, a good understanding of financial acumen and funding processes will be all highly favourable. We are looking for proven capability to balance the goals and outcomes of an NFP/Community for purpose organisation, with all the compliance and reporting that entails including commercial acumen. At a personal level it will be important to demonstrate your ability to deal calmly with a crisis, to set a positive example to a wider team, to understand the demands and stresses under which Cafs delivery teams work, and to continue building a strong, positive reputation within the wider community. Cafs agreed Values and stewardship of diversity and inclusion are key to how the organisation ticks. We need to see a track record of developing teams and equipping an organisation, or part of it, with a talented succession plan that enables it to grow and deliver relevant, contemporary services.
