The Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), the independent national community voice on refugee issues, is seeking a permanent, full time, Administration and Fundraising Officer.
RCOA is the peak body for organisations who work with and for refugees and people seeking asylum. RCOA conducts research, raises awareness and advocates on national and international issues affecting refugees and people seeking asylum.
The Administration and Fundraising Officer works as part of the Communications Team and provides administrative and fundraising support. The successful applicant will be a self-motivated team member with excellent organisational skills, have keen attention to detail and understanding of community fundraising programs.

The position is full time and will work from RCOA’s Sydney office. The annual salary package including 10.5% superannuation is $79,600. The overall value of the package is increased further by access to tax-free salary packaging options extended to staff of public benevolent institutions (which can increase the take-home pay for this position by up to $6300 p.a. at current rates).
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Director Strategy, Communications and Fundraising, the Administration and Fundraising Officer supports the fundraising activities of RCOA. The position works, as required, with RCOA staff involved in fundraising, community engagement, administration, and projects. The position is responsible for the following:
Donations and Donor Retention
- Process donations accurately and provision of receipts to donors.
- Maintain an accurate database of donations and donors.
- Coordinate donor retention strategies including acknowledgement of donations and provision of information to donors.
- Create and manage donation pages on RCOA’s website.
- Regular and accurate updating of Filemaker and NationBuilder databases with donations, donor profiles and donor information including payments via cheques, credit card, direct deposit, Stripe and Paypal.
- Creation of monthly donation reports for Accounting Officer.
- Respond to donor inquiries.
- Support fundraising projects as required.
- Implement activities identified in RCOA’s fundraising strategy.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Creation and analysis of regular reports to track fundraising campaigns, strategies and goals.
- Liaise with CRM database support team as required to ensure membership and donation data is maintained accurately.
Membership
- Process RCOA membership fees and renewals accurately.
- Respond to membership inquiries.
General Duties
- Answer general and fundraising inquiries (phone and email).
- Provide logistical support for events and projects.
- Support staff with organisational digital tools such as Zoom, Humanitix, Survey Monkey etc.
- Monitor and order office stationery and photocopier supplies as required.
- Assist in the maintenance of the RCOA and associated websites and social media promotions.
- Supervision of skilled volunteers for discreet projects.
- Other duties as determined by the Director Strategy, Communications and Fundraising, Manager, Deputy CEO and CEO.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following selection criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications (diploma or above) in a relevant field
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with members of the public.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Understanding of fundraising and communications programs.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Experience using databases, NationBuilder or other fundraising programs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Desirable:
- Lived refugee experience or knowledge of refugee and asylum seeker issues
- Experience managing volunteers
