THE POSITION

St John of God Social Outreach Services build capacity and support the physical, mental and emotional wellness of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. We provide community-based care in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Timor-Leste.

Horizon House Program - Broome provides support for young Indigenous Australian men aged 16-22 years who are in need of long term accommodation and care to enable them to access education, training and employment opportunities. Our focus is on giving them the stability, life-skills and support they need to achieve their individual goals and ultimately, make the transition to independent living.

An opportunity is available for an enthusiastic Youth Residential Carer to join our Broome Horizon House team on a casual basis.

As a Youth Residential Carer with us you will work in a residential care setting alongside the Support Coordinator, to provide intensive support for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will provide advocacy & support to residents, as well as coordinating, developing and implementing Independent Life Skills Programmes, in order to meet the individualised needs of young people.

Applicants undertaking studies in a relevant youth work related field who are seeking practical experience are encouraged to apply.

To be considered Applicants are to address the position requirements below and provide their availability for shifts over 7 days from Monday to Sunday including weekends and public holidays on a rotating roster. Shifts may also include residential sleep overs.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE BELOW POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work or similar.
  • Extensive experience in an area related to youth work and/or case management.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the special needs of adolescents and trauma-informed care together with at least five years recent relevant experience working with at-risk young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Privacy Legislation and Occupational, Health & Safety Act Regulations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Adhere to pre-employment immunisation policy and possession of a current:
    • Unrestricted Manual State Driver’s Licence
    • First Aid Certificate
    • State Working with Children Card
    • Commitment to and participation in ongoing development on skills and knowledge in working within a therapeutic service model.
