SNAICC – National Voice for Our Children is growing quickly and continues to expand its policy team as it takes on many exciting systemic advocacy and research projects that will improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

The Position

The Policy & Engagement Lead, Family Violence Prevention and Response will play a key role in policy to improve the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. The position will play a lead role in developing and implementing community engagement strategies for social research and policy development to promote the safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children from domestic and family violence.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander individual
  • Is passionate about the rights, needs and safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children and is keen to make a difference at a national level
  • Demonstrates capability to work effectively to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders to progress policy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Has previous experience in management, policy development, social research and/or advocacy
  • Understands how to manage disclosures of family violence and ensure trauma-informed, culturally safe community engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Has strong writing skills, including developing reports, submissions and papers, and has demonstrated capacity to research, analyse, understand and write concisely about complex social policy issues
  • Has strong experience in project management including the ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders, develop and implement project work plans and meet deadlines
  • is a great analytical thinker, and a leader who can connect the dots and build a strong evidence base for policy and advocacy.

SNAICC’s vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families are protected, our communities determine their own futures, and our cultural identity is valued. We work to amplify the voice of community and the sector for the fulfilment of the rights of our children.

SNAICC plays a key role in the following areas:

  • Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy and sector representation
  • Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency
