About the Mental Health Department

St. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The adult mental health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital site, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) Service and the Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT) includes Extended Triage and HOPE (Suicide Prevention), Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services. A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) and NEVIL Training Cluster are regional services. Statewide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health.

About the Role

The Consultant Psychiatrist is accountable for the delivery of clinical services to the consumers of the CMH, including Clarendon CMHS and First Episode Psychosis Program and provides clinical leadership in partnership with the Director Community Psychiatry and Manager Clarendon CMHS, through providing high quality clinical services, contributing to service evaluation and research and displaying a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in psychiatry.

Classifications for this position will range from Senior Specialist Year 1 - Year 9.

Duties

  • Assessing, formulating and implementing treatment via a recovery-oriented framework for consumers.
  • Implementing clinical practices in line with current best standards, using the best available evidence and meeting the requirements of relevant law, ethics and community needs.
  • Active involvement in the consideration of access and discharge to or from SVHM CMHS and the appropriate clinical pathway, including First Episode Psychosis pathway and appropriate interventions for consumers.
  • Provision of clinical leadership and support to the multi-disciplinary team and other staff as required.
  • Working collaboratively with and facilitating regular communication with staff of community mental health and other mental health service components and SVHM.
  • Regular communication and liaison with relevant community services, NDIS providers, private psychiatrists and general practitioners.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent
  • Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Registration with AHPRA
