ABOUT THIS ROLE
This position will be responsible for the efficient operation of the headspace Taree ‘front end’ reception and primary care GP practice of the headspace Taree centre. This diverse role is accountable for a variety of tasks including: acting as the initial contact point for clients, providing medical practice support, managing financial and general administration. Working on the front reception, the PSO will be the first point of contact for a range of young people 12- 25 years, including those who may be experiencing mental health problems. Other tasks include organising appointments, engaging and liaising with GPs and Allied Health Professionals, collection of client Minimum Data Set (MDS) through iPads, monitoring and recording vaccine fridge temperatures twice daily, liaising with Medicare, IT contractors and processing online MBS billings, data entry and performing various administrative duties.
Essential Criteria
- A minimum of 2 years experience within a general/ allied health practice in a community setting
- Demonstrated ability to train and supervise other Practice Support staff
- Sound knowledge of medical software/ digital health (including secure messaging), the Medicare system and processing of online Medicare payments.
- Experience in the coordination of a practice and supporting GPs and/or Private Allied Health Providers, within a medical practice setting.
- Understanding of the Better Healthcare Initiative (including Mental Health Care plans)
- High level of computer literacy and the use of appointment software and databases
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, email, publishing and appointment software).
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to confidentiality principles.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work, multi-task, meet deadlines and respond to requests at short notice.
- Demonstrated ability to function within a demanding and high-volume workplace with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive, and display commitment to quality improvement/customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to difficult and/or stressful situations in a calm, sensitive and professional manner.
- Demonstrate an understanding of quality improvement and customer service
- Ability to order stationery and manage stock.
Desirable Criteria
- Prior experience engaging with, and acting as a first point of contact for, young people with some level of mental health/well-being risk in a medical/health setting.
- Demonstrated experience in liaising with a variety of internal and external providers in the health and human services sector.
