Save The Children

Save The Children header

At Save the Children you can make a real difference to the complex and challenging world we live in. It is challenging to work in the places we work, but also immensely rewarding. We are constantly questioning how we can do things differently to have maximum impact on the lives of the most disadvantaged and marginalised. We need you to join us in this challenge, help our dedicated teams to improve lives in Vanuatu and produce benefits that will last for generations.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia, the Pacific and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground. We've been working in Vanuatu for more than 25 years directly promoting children's rights and supporting the community in areas of health, education, community development and climate change.

Where you come in:

In this full-time position based in Port Vila you will engage, lead, motivate and inspire a team of approximately 50 staff to create long-term positive impact on the lives of Vanuatu's children. Through strong leadership, innovative partnerships and demonstrated program outcomes, you will grow the scale and quality of operations to achieve strategic goals and maximise positive impact on the lives of children in Vanuatu. With a high-degree of autonomy, supported by Melbourne Head Office, you will be part of our International Programs team and report to the Pacific Regional Director.

You will make an impact by:

  • Developing, engaging and inspiring staff through proactive leadership
  • Thinking innovatively to identify and capture new growth opportunities through traditional and non-traditional means
  • Improving operational sustainability
  • Providing strategic and operational oversight of program quality, governance and outcomes
  • Understanding the importance of, and proactively participating in networking and strategic stakeholder engagement

If we could compose the perfect you…

… are calm in a crisis and can engage and mobilise people through a natural leadership presence and highly evolved interpersonal skills. A passion for development, you enjoy networking, advocating and generating new growth opportunities to maximise positive impacts on children's lives. Measuring program impact is important and you can challenge the status quo to improve quality and outcomes. You're looking for a role that blends strategy, operations and programming as you enjoy rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty.

This role requires:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field of community development / social science or relevant discipline
  • Extensive experience in a senior management capacity in the development industry
  • Strong financial acumen including management of large-scale budgets
  • Demonstrated experience creating, developing and securing innovative business growth opportunities
  • Experience in humanitarian programming
  • Coalition building capabilities, external networking and experience in developing strategic partnerships
  • Experience gained working in remote locations, ideally within a Pacific nation or similar

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Competitive salary
  • Mobilisation and de-mobilisation airfares
  • Accommodation + basic utilities
  • Annual leave flights
  • A friendly and flexible work environment
  • Great career opportunities - both locally and internationally
