About the role

The Transition from Ashley Youth Detention Centre, Youth Worker is responsible for the delivery of a support program for young people who are transitioning from remand and detention back into the community in the southern region of Tasmania. You will work with young people, both in detention and in the community, to help them to identify and realise their recreational, educational and vocational/employment goals, providing practical, mentoring support to young people to enable them to work towards meeting their goals and aspirations.

You will have

  • Demonstrated high level communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people from a broad range of backgrounds, particularly disadvantaged young people.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role working with young people.
  • A sound understanding of issues relating to young people and the legal system.
  • Experience in Child Rights programming or working within the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.
  • Qualification in Youth Work, Community Development or related discipline, highly regarded.
