The Scout Association of Australia ACT Branch (Scouts ACT) is seeking applications from suitable persons to be the next Chief Commissioner. This is a volunteer role.
Scouts provides young people aged 5 to 25 with fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventure. The purpose of Scouting is to help young people to achieve their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens, and as members of their local, national, and international communities.
Scouts ACT is the peak body for Scouting in Canberra and, via our Scout Groups and Rover Units, run more than 4,000 activities every year. These activities are heavily focussed on outdoor challenge, skill-building, and adventure and include such things as archery, bushwalking, canoeing, climbing, sailing, and skiing. Scouts embeds a ‘youth leading, adult supporting’ philosophy that facilitates engagement and regular participation and helps every youth member develop planning skills and practice leadership. Scouts ACT has over 2,000 volunteer youth and adult members and is accessible to all regardless of ability, cultural background and ethnicity, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or gender / gender identity.
Scouts ACT seeks an inspiring leader with proven leadership and management skills, and enthusiasm for and commitment to the development of young people.
The position of Chief Commissioner is an integral part of the Executive Management Team at Scouts ACT that also includes the President and Executive Officer. Together they provide leadership to achieve Scouts ACT’s strategic goals and build on established foundations to add to the proud catalogue of local, national, and international scouting achievements.
The Chief Commissioner of Scouts ACT is responsible for the delivery of the Youth Program. The Chief Commissioner also represents the ACT at various national meetings, including as a member of Scouts Australia’s National Operations Committee.
It would be advantageous, although not essential, that the successful applicant has familiarity with Scouting or a similar volunteer/life skill education program. Scout leadership training will be provided for the successful applicant as required.
This volunteer position is offered for an initial period of three years commencing on 1 July 2022 and will suit an applicant who is able to devote quality time (variously during business and after hours) and passion to the role.
Applications are invited from existing members, past members, and people with no previous association with Scouting. Younger people are encouraged to apply. This is a vitally important senior role for Scouting in the ACT, and we are looking for the best possible candidate – from any source.
For further information please see the Scouts ACT website or contact Ms Andrea Butler, Chair of the Nominating Committee, on 0410 27 377 or [email protected], using the subject line: Chief Commissioner (Voluntary) enquiry via EthicalJobs. All enquiries will be treated in confidence.
