Your New Career

Council’s Climate Action Team are a passionate group of change makers dedicated to responding to the climate emergency, championing better environmental performance across the organisation and actively supporting the community to live more sustainably. The team lead the delivery of Council’s climate emergency response plan with a focus on climate change mitigation, adaptation and mobilising staff and the community in climate action.

What you will bring to the role

We are looking for a Climate Action Officer to lead the delivery of greenhouse gas emissions reduction and energy transition activities across the Surf Coast. To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A passion for driving climate action and finding emissions reduction opportunities
  • A good working knowledge of carbon accounting and renewable energy solutions, and
  • An ability to work in a dynamic environment and positively engage with key stakeholders.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental sustainability/science, or related field, or demonstrated equivalent competencies gained through experience in these areas or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of emission reduction programs both within Council and the community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of climate change issues and action at local, state and federal government levels.
  • Strong skills in environmental data management and the use of tools, data systems and/or platforms to measure and analyse organisational performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain cooperation and assistance from a diverse range of people, including staff, contractors, government personal and community groups.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write engaging web content.
  • Highly developed project management skills and experience in working with diverse stakeholders.
  • A current WWCC.
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council). A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current Victorian driver’s licence.
  • General technical understanding of solar and energy efficiency measures in residential and commercial settings.
