The role you could play

We are seeking a dedicated AOD Registered Nurse! You will provide nursing support and care for clients of the Geelong Withdrawal Unit and support clients seeking to recover from addiction.

This position works within a team consisting AOD Support Workers, AOD Case Workers, Counsellors, Intake and Assessment Workers, Care and Recovery Coordinators, Group Facilitators, AOD Aftercare Case Workers, Administration staff, Chaplains, AOD Team Leader, Nursing Team Leader and AOD Service Manager.

Duties

  • Clients are welcomed into the programme, are fully aware of their treatment plan and inducted into the programme.
  • Clients are provided with their withdrawal medication in a respectful fashion and in accordance with their medication chart and clinical observations are carried out and accurately reported.
  • Clients are actively encouraged to participate in the programme where activities are monitored and clearly communicated at handover meetings.
  • Professional, respectful and collaborative relationship is maintained with AOD Support staff and any risks to clients, staff and TSA are identified and brought to the attention of the Nursing Coordinator as soon as is possible.
  • Appropriate preventative action is taken to address workplace hazards as per TSA procedure
  • Service gaps when identified are made known to the Nursing Coordinator

​This is a permanent part-time/full time position, 22.8- 38 hours per week, based in Barwon, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with Registered Nurse Award.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Degree or equivalent in Nursing and a current Div 1 Certificate
  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Competencies CHCAOD 2C, 6B, 8C, 9C AND 10A
  • AHPRA Registration
  • Clinical nursing and assessment skills and an understanding of professional nursing issues
  • Practical experience in AOD sector service delivery, with an understanding of addictive behaviour and drugs, both illicit and licit
  • Implement Poisons Control Plan
  • Adhere to requirements in relation to medication regimes and related documentation
  • Skills in managing challenging behaviours
