Our two Community Thrift Shops in Belmont and Newcomb are great places to find amazing bargains, quality clothing, and essential home items. Profits made go to funding vital community activities and programs across the local area, in the Corps and The Salvation Army.

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Casual Thrift Shop Assistant to assist the Thrift Shop Manager and Assistant Thrift Shop Manager ensuring quality customer service, diligence in cash handling and banking, quality sorting of donated goods, pricing and maintaining the general appearance and upkeep of the shop. You will assist in strengthening links between the wider community and Corps.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver excellence in customer service by responding to customer needs, and actively seeking opportunities to connect customers to TSA mission
  • Ensure that that the shop operates efficiently and effectively in the absence of the managers
  • Supervise volunteers in the absence of the Manager / Assistant Manager
  • Monitor shop for security purposes
  • Open shop on time and close the shop at the end of trading
  • Assist with the store financial processes including completion of daily cash reconciliation, preparation of cash floats and banking
  • Greet all customers in a warm and inviting manner

Reporting to the Corps Officers our shops are located in Newcomb, 92 Coppards Road, Newcomb and Belmont, 17 Settlement Road, Belmont. Both stores are open Monday to Saturday.

HOURS AND SALARY

We currently have two casual positions available to work in each of our Thrift Shops. Applicants must be available to work on Saturdays and fill in shifts during the week as required and during absences of the shop Managers.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with General Retail Industry Award Level 3.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE

  • Certificate in Retail Operations / Diploma of Business (desirable)
  • Experience working with volunteers (desirable)
  • Retail experience with demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service to ensure customers' needs are met with dignity and respect
  • Basic working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Current VIC Working with Children Check
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
