About YOS

The Salvation Army Youth Outreach Service offers a supportive environment where, through compassionate and skilled service, youth “at risk” can find hope and achieve their potential. The primary goal of our programs is to provide disengaged young people freedom to live independently through engagement in supported education and targeted social interventions. Besides the national educational curriculum, education would include social, emotional and living skills, and where appropriate have a spiritual education stream. 

The role:

In line with TSA organisation mission and the YOS service mission this role will be responsible for co-ordinatingmentors and assisting at risk youth to reach required hours, and develop driver skillsets in order to gain their provisional license and to safely operate a vehicle.

To be successful for this role, you will have (essential criteria):

• Possess an understanding of the Graduated Driving Framework and its objectives.
• An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
• Current Drivers License with no suspend licence for 5 yrs and no present of historical convictions for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Level of understanding of issues regarding disengaged young people and a willingness to work alongside them to achieve this goal.
• Demonstrated high level of communication, interpersonal skills and ability to create relationships with young people, mentors and other stakeholders.
• Desirable to have experience in coordination of mentors and working/coaching with disengaged youth.
• Proven experience in working with people of varying cultures, races, economic, social and educational background.
• Positive Notice Working with Children suitability card (Commission for Children and Young People Blue Card) or willingness to obtain.
