The Opportunity

As a relationally driven and experienced finance and accounting professional, you will find this role full of variety, challenge and responsibility reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, supported by an experienced, professional and diverse finance team in a values-driven organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, promote and continuously improve the Institute’s finance business partnering, ensuring a solutions-focused and collaborative approach to working with internal stakeholders.
  • Manage all accounting, internal controls and financial reporting responsibilities of the Institute, including monthly management accounts and KPI reporting.
  • Oversee the management of fiscal reporting activities for the Institute and ensure that all compliance, regulatory, legal, audit and governance requirements are fully satisfied.
  • Oversee the preparation of high quality and compliant budgets and financial acquittals relating to research funding applications, and support the Chief Financial Officer in the development of the Institute’s annual budget.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement by proactively reviewing and implementing process and reporting improvements.
  • Effective management of the Institute’s financial position and planning.

About You

The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience within the not-for-profit /research sector in the following:

  1. Genuine commitment to working in a collaborative and relational way that is partnership-centric and solutions-focused.
  2. A strong understanding of a holistic financial management environment, with extensive experience at both strategic and operational levels of a finance team including financial and management accounting, budget management and forecasting, compliance and reporting, external audit and cashflow management in medium to large organisations within the not-for-profit /research sector.
  3. Ability to drive and lead business improvement and innovation to deliver outstanding service and genuine solutions for stakeholders with the resources available. Continually pursuing more effective and efficient ways of operating without diminishing the commitment to ensuring excellent customer service.
  4. Leadership and staff management including responsibility for effective service delivery, staff development, creating and sustaining a high performance and culturally strong team, and working optimally in a complex and dynamic operating environment.

The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and Proof of working rights in Australia prior to commencement. Previous candidates need not apply.
