The Fair Trader is a family-owned business that is a one-stop shop for Fair Trade and ethical gifts. We are looking for a Casual Sales Assistant to join our team in Croydon South.

Our goal is to help provide regular and sustained employment for disadvantaged artisans around the world and within Australia. We stock products made by organisations with transparent and deeply held ethical values who prioritise poverty alleviation, empowerment and sustainability. We are proud to stock beautiful, unique products that are handmade by skilled artisans. Our store is a peaceful, positive space full of Fair Trade treasures and a community of friendly staff and customers.

Let’s talk about you

We’re looking for someone with:

• Retail experience
• Experience using a digital POS system
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Basic computer literacy
• A demonstrated ability to engage with customers
• Knowledge about Fair Trade and ethical fashion, or an interest in learning
• A genuine care for social justice and an open mind to listen and learn
• Flexible work hours (within our store Open Hours - see below)
• The ability to work alone and with others

Other skills that aren’t required but will be highly regarded:

• Visual merchandising and/or content creation skills

• Experience using an E-Commerce system (especially Shopify)

The role

Your job will include:

• Providing friendly customer service
• Use of POS system and EFTPOS
• Educating customers about Fair Trade and telling the stories behind our products
• Engaging customers to drive sales
• Gift wrapping
• Stocktake
• Packing and sending online orders
• Opening and closing the store
• Managing the float and accurately recording daily figures
• Assisting with customer enquiries, online store pick ups and Lay-bys
