Position Purpose

The Clinical Psychologist (Perinatal) is a member of the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry team within the Women’s Mental Health Service. Together with other members of the team, the Clinical Psychologist (Perinatal) is responsible for the provision of evidence-based psychological services to women treated at RWH.

The role is specifically focused on the development and delivery of group interventions to women in the perinatal period. Together with members of the CWMH, the Clinical Psychologist (Perinatal) will also participate in the development and implementation of relevant research and quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities & Major Activities

Clinical

  • Provide psychological assessment to women who are patients of RWH who also have mental health problems, with a focus on perinatal mental health
  • Provide evidence-based therapies to women who are patients of RWH who also have mental health problems, with a focus on perinatal mental health.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, care planning and case review
  • Co-ordinate and develop group programs as appropriate

Research

  • Assist in the design and implementation of research projects relating to women’s mental health undertaken by staff and/or students at RWH

Other Responsibilities

  • Be aware of and work in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Control, Equal Employment Opportunity and Confidentiality.
  • Use of the Women’s electronic medical record (EMR) where required to fulfil the duties of this position.
  • Be respectful of the needs of patients, visitors and other staff and maintain a professional approach to all interactions.
  • Participate in team/service meetings and other organisational meetings as required
  • Participate in quality improvement activities within the WMHS.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide accurate reports and statistics as required
  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and processes based on evidence of best practice in clinical psychology/psychiatry
  • Participate in Mental Health service development as required
  • Carry out clinical activities as directed by the Head of Clinical Psychology of the WMHS
  • Provide mental health services (assessment and treatment) to patients referred receiving treatment in the gynaecology and oncology teams, as required
  • Contribute as appropriate to activities and initiatives at RWH

About you

To be successful within this role you will need to have:

Essential Criteria

  • Registered as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with endorsement as a clinical psychologist
  • A minimum of Masters level degree in Clinical Psychology
    • Experience in delivery of clinical psychology services in the perinatal setting
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently
    • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office suite products, use of email and internet searching skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in delivery of clinical psychology services in a general hospital setting
  • Expertise in design and conduct of research and data analysis

Influenza Vaccination Requirement

In line with the Health Services Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers) Act 2020, some health care workers are now required to have their flu vaccination to work in health care. Evidence of vaccination is required.

As this role fits into category B of the departments risk ratings, applicants will be required to have been vaccinated against influenza. Evidence of vaccination is required.
