ABOUT THE BUSINESS

Topaz Sustainable Timbers is owned and run by Will and Bess, a young local couple passionate about environmentally responsible forestry. We have one of the widest selections of native rainforest hardwood in Far North Queensland. Slabs and dimensional timber are available to purchase from trees salvaged locally or grown, harvested and milled sustainably on our nature refuge. We also offer mobile milling services and make custom furniture and other timber products to order.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking to fill a mid-entry role in supporting the business to grow. The successful applicant will work alongside the owner and two other staff from our shed at Lake Eacham, Far North Qld. Duties involve; retail operations including quoting and sales, timber milling, timber dressing and work for making furniture, kitchen bench tops and other products.

MUST HAVE

• Car license and transport
• Good numeracy skills for calculating quantities of timber
• High competence with computers and iPad
• Experience in woodworking, carpentry or construction
• Experience independently and safely operating a variety of powered tools
• Sound knowledge of work health and safety and embodiment of safe work
• Strong and fit for manual labour

DESIRABLE

• Forklift, chainsaw and truck licenses
• Mechanical knowledge
• Knowledge of Far North Qld timber species
• Experience in the timber/forestry industry
• Customer service experience

JOB TYPE

Part-time (Minimum 23 hours/fortnight)

The nature of our small business (and small team) often requires staff to be flexible in their work hours in order to meet deadlines. A time-in-lieu policy exists to compensate for this.

LOCATION

Atherton Tablelands, Far North Queensland. Our warehouse located in Lake Eacham is our primary place of work but you will also be required to work at the plantation at Topaz from time to time. Some travel within and outside the Far North Queensland region may be required.

RENUMERATION

You will be rewarded for your contributions to the business with a salary proportionate to your experience and skill set relative to the Timber Industry Award (MA000071) and 9.5% superannuation.
